About The Park

Named after the Pench River, this jungle park is located in the Southern part of Madhya Pradesh and stretches to Maharashtra too. It is famously known for the setting of Rudyard Kipling’s classic, “The Jungle Book,” bringing to life the tales of Mowgli, Bagheera, and Baloo in its verdant forests and vibrant ecosystems. Pench Tiger Reserve has the greatest herbivore density in India, with around 90.3 animals per square kilometre. It is home to 39 species of mammals, 13 species of reptiles, 3 species of amphibians, 210 species of birds, including numerous migratory birds, and over 1,200 species of plants.

It provides a critical habitat for a wide array of wildlife and is a key conservation site for tigers under Project Tiger. Pench is a heaven for birdwatchers. The park provides a superb birding experience, with species ranging from the brilliant Indian roller and magnificent crested hawk-eagle to the charming Malabar pied hornbill. This diversified vegetation supports a thriving biodiversity, providing food and shelter for the park’s species.
