Situated in the Nagpur & Bhandara district of the Indian state of Maharashtra, Umred is home to many mammals, birds & reptiles. The arrival of one of Maharashtra’s famous tigers, Jay, led to the park gaining deserved popularity. The fact that this tiger who was once a resident of Nagzira, travelled through human settlements and the mighty Wainganga River to find his peace in Umred had thrilled the wildlife experts across the country and his legacy continues in the park.
Approximately 60% of the sanctuary is covered by majestic teak trees, alongside a variety of other species such as Lendia, Tendu, Tiwas, Semal, Mohuwa, Achar, Bhirra, and Dhaoda. This rich flora not only enhances the sanctuary’s beauty but also provides essential habitats for its wildlife.
Umred Karhandla National Park, a UNESCO Natural World Heritage Site since 1985, showcases remarkable biodiversity and rich history. It was successfully removed from the ‘World Heritage Site in Danger’ list in 2011, reflecting its revival and conservation success.

The park is open from October 15 to June 15 each year. The winter months (November to February) offer pleasant weather and good wildlife sightings. March to May provides the highest chances of tiger sightings.
